Yesterday was the anniversary of Helen Leary and Hubert Keenan's wedding. Below is another picture from the wedding. This one is the happy couple with their wedding party. From left: Barry Leary, Alta Martineau, James Keenan, Arthur Leary, Catherine Leary, Helen Leary, Hubert Keenan, Mrs. and Mr. Harold Garey (sorry - the newspaper only gives her married name - and not even her own first name).

The newspaper article says the breakfast reception took place at the home of the bride, which means it is the home of Walter and Ida Leary in North Lawrence.

PS - I had previously posted the picture of the bride and groom with their parents.

  1. Hello, I just happened to type in my great aunt's name & location, and this came up. She was Alta Leary, also known as Alta Martineau, she was the Postmaster in N Lawrence for a number of years, son is Jimmy. Is this the same Alta as pictured here? The date of her passing doesn't seem quite right if she is, I seemed to remember visiting her with my mother a few years after that. My father was Wayne Hill, son Of Irene Hill/Martineau, her husband was LLoyd/Bunker, a postal carrier in Potsdam. Anyways, when I have more time, I want to read your other blogs & pages, very interested in my family genealogy. Thank you, Daniel Hill-Chestnut Ridge Rd Auburn, NY (Formerly of Liverpool, NY.

  2. Hi. Sorry I've been so delayed responding. I'll see if I can find you on social media. Anyway, it sounds like we are talking about the same Alta and you are right she did not die in 1978. I remember visiting her as a kid in the early 1980s. But I realized it's a formatting issue - the death date is for James Keenan. I'll add more details for Alta if I can find them.
